18 Aug SUSTAINABLILITY UPDATE
Sustainability has been a rewarding point of focus for us recently at Structura.
We started this journey by measuring our carbon footprint and setting our base year in 2018. Having secured ISO 14604-1 for our commitment to Carbon Reduction, we took a step further and confirmed our status as a Carbon Neutral business in June 2021.
This was a landmark moment for us as a business, and we’re committed to maintaining this status as we work towards our Net Zero plans.
To this end, we are significantly reducing our operational carbon emissions (an amazing forecast of 43% saved this year vs. base year!) whilst continuing to look for incremental improvements that make a difference.
Elsewhere, we’ve also invested in battery storage to support our solar installation, which now powers most of our fully electric car fleet, as well as our head office and factory. We also upgraded our fabrication equipment, including a new state-of-the-art Schuco CNC machine to improve our energy efficiency; a big investment for the business but one that we’ve undertaken with the long term firmly in mind.
We’re also getting in gear to support circular economy recycling, carefully deglazing projects so that the architectural-grade glass cullet can be returned to suppliers to produce low-carbon products. This process is taking place on multiple sites throughout our portfolio and are seeing a concerted drive from our clients to undertake this service – more on this soon.
